"If your actions inspire others to

dream more, learn more,

do more and become more,

you are a leader.”
John Quincy Adams

People love labels and over time leading and managing have nearly become synonymous to most people.  Maybe you've been there where someone told you were weren't a leader because you didn't have the word 'Manager' in your title?  That obsolete thinking is a byproduct of the days when hierarchy was the rule of the day and title meant more than accomplishment.  How most people define success is evolving and that mentality just doesn't cut it anymore.

So what is a leader?  You're a leader if you see the possibilities in spite of whatever may be in the way of accomplishing them.  You have the vision and you are driven to make that vision a reality.  You have the courage to try and even if you fall down a few times, you get back up and keep trying.  You're inspired to build the world that could be rather than settle for the world as it is.  You're inspired and inspiring.  You're a leader.

To some, leadership just comes naturally, but nearly all of us have things we can do to sharpen our leadership skills and true leaders strive to be better.  Growth is important to them and they seek it out rather than waiting for someone to tell them what do to.  They ask for help when they need it and they are always there to lend a hand to someone else.  It's about how you show up when things get tough and how you celebrate the good stuff.

That and more make a leader.

A Leader is constantly in search of information and knowledge and they freely share what they know.

A Leader isn't afraid to tell the truth and provides a safe space for those around them to do the same.

A Leader lives outside of 'the box' and actively pursues new and innovative ways of thinking and doing.

A Leader is willing to try and fail as they bring their vision to life.

A Leader will always try to make things better, even when the odds are stacked against them.  It's in their DNA.

A Leader can admit when they're wrong, when they made a mistake or when someone else has a better idea.  The goal is more important than ego.

These are just a few of the qualities that a leader builds over their life.  They lay the foundation for a journey of self exploration and discovery that never ends.  Are you ready to be a leader?
